Sexual Fluidity: Understanding Women's Love and Desire

Well, that title’s going to attract a wide range of readers. I’ll never forget reading Lisa Diamond’s book Sexual Fluidity: Understanding Women’s Love and Desireat my kids’ afterschool events and getting some rather strange “ewe, what a creeper” looks from the other moms.

On Gun Control and Militarism

Gun control. If you ever want to spark a massive debate in your next Bible study, just mention those two words—gun control. As an owner of several guns myself (a 12 gauge, 20 gauge, .270, and .22), I’d be a hypocrite to say that Christians shouldn’t own guns.

Jesus Was a Jew: Understanding Jesus and Same-Sex Marriages in His 1st Century Jewish (Not Our 21st Century Western) Context

The following is the full manuscript of a paper I'm presenting (like, right now) at the Evangelical Theological Society's annual meeting in Atlanta (Wed, Nov 18th at 3:10pm EST). My paper is the first of four papers that discuss "Methodological Approaches to a Theology of Marriage."

Preston Sprinkle and Jeff Cook: A Debate about Homosexuality

Pastor Jeff Cook and I hosted a debate (or discussion) about homosexuality a month ago on my blog, and I’ve had several people ask for a “one stop” link for all the blogs. Therefore, I’ve included all the links to our discussion below, with a short description of what each post is about.

Why I (Still) Believe in Believer's Baptism

In my last post, I tried to clear away some arguments that clutter the discussion on whether Christians should baptize their infants. One could walk way from that post thinking that I endorse infant baptism. But I don’t.

Where Was Jesus Born?

Despite what is ubiquitously portrayed in nativity scenes, Christian folklore, and every English translation that I’m aware of, there’s a good chance that Jesus’ parents never visited an inn in Bethlehem to give birth to the Christ-child. Here are three reasons why.

Is Same-Sex Attraction Sinful?

A couple weeks ago I gave a paper at the Evangelical Theological Society's Annual meeting. The paper was part of a seminar on sexual orientation and the topic was: "Is Same-Sex Attraction Sinful?" Two other participants also gave papers: Denny Burk and Wesley Hill.

More Thoughts on David Gushee and Homosexuality

In yesterday’s post, I gave a brief response to Dr. David Gushee’s recent shift regarding homosexuality. My blog was passed around fairly broadly and elicited various Facebook discussions, which I did not anticipate.

A Response to John Piper on Romans 7

Andrian Warnock and I both responded to John Piper’s interpretation of Romans 7, to which Piper has recently posted a response on the Desiring God blog. I’d like offer a counter response to Piper’s strongest arguments for his view. Again, Piper believes that Paul is describing a believer in Romans 7:14-25, whereas Andrian and I do not.
